Legendary British two-wheeler maker BSA Motorcycles Ltd was founded in 1919 and it was the largest two-wheeler maker and seller of its own time. BSA production was stopped because of some reason. Now BSA is back with Gold Star 650 retro classic motorcycle. BSA Gols Star 650 is combined with the DNA of classic BSA motorcycle and modern new generation technology. The engine of BSA Gold Star is powered by a 652 cc single-cylinder 4-valves twin spark liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC engine which churns out a peak power of 45 HP at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 55 Nm at 4000 rpm. It is enabled with a 5-speed gear train and electronic fuel injection system for the fuel supply. The engine looks the same as the old BSA engines with some new generation chrome coating.
For powerful braking to control this 198 kg (dry weight) heavy motorcycle, BSA has used a double channel ABS with a single 320 mm twin-piston floating calliper disc brake on the front wheel and a single 255mm single-piston floating calliper disc brake on the rear wheel. The large 1425 mm wheelbase and a comfortable 780 mm seat height is going to provide great comfort to the rider in the future.
BSA has used 41 mm telescopic forks on the front suspension and 5-step adjustable twin shock absorbers on the rear wheel. BSA has done a tremendous job to develop this classic motorcycle. It does not lag the necessary modern technology and also looks like a pure classic motorcycle.
The instrument console is a combination of analogue and digital technology with LCD multi-function display. Engine kill switch has been given like all modern motorcycles. The 12 liters fuel tank looks classic on both sides BSA badging and chrome lining, and the cap is situated on the right side offset.
BSA has used a 100 mm wide Pirelli Phantom tyre on the front wheel and a 150 mm wide Pirelli Phantom radial tyre on the rear wheel. This tyre is specially designed for great performance and the long life of sports bikes. The 18-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear alloy wheels are decorated with 36-wire spokes on each wheel to give the new Gold Star 650 a pure retro classic look.
The WMTC standard mileage of BSA Gold Star 650 is 30 kilometers per liter fuel or 70.6 miles per gallon. Initially, BSA Gold Star 650 will be available in Insignia Red, Dawn Silver, Midnight Black, Highland Green and Silver Sheen (Legacy Edition) colors.
The price is not revealed yet, the expected price is around Rs 5.0 Lakhs (around 6600 Dollars).
It will directly compete with the Royal Enfield 650 series like Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. A new 650 classic motorcycle of Royal Enfield is coming soon. Though BSA has done a great job to develop this motorcycle the competition with the Royal Enfield will be tough because of the current demand and popularity of the Royal Enfield's motorcycles. But Royal Enfield has a monopoly in this segment especially in India and only BSA can break that monopoly.
